If you’re thinking about updating your home, don’t overlook the entryway! Often it’s the first impression your guests will get of your home’s interior, so why not wow them? The entryway sets the story for the rest of the home, so make it inviting, functional, and consistent with the rest of the décor throughout your property.

Here’s our top five tips to decorating the entryway of your home or rental property:

1. Include seating. Even if your entryway is small, adding a bench or chair encourages guests to sit down and take shoes off before going further. If your rental is located near a ski resort or the beach, this is pretty much a necessity.

2. Add storage shelves or hooks. Giving your guests someplace to literally hang their hat or store their ski boots will be a welcome addition to any vacation rental property. We recommend open shelving, if possible, as it makes it easier for guests to find everything when it’s time to pack up and check out.

3. Add a mirror.  Mirrors generally increase the visual size of a room, helping to bounce light and create a more open feeling. Plus, it’s a great place for guests to take a last look of themselves before heading out to dinner or a show.

4. Stretch with stripes.  A narrow entryway may be short on space, but a quick fix to make it feel larger is simple: add a striped runner rug. The longer the area rug, the more spacious your entryway will feel.

5. Add personality. If your home is located in Austin or Memphis, adding a fun neon sign in the entryway greets guests in a way that matches the vibe of your location. On the other hand, if your short-term rental is located near the beach, a boho macrame wall hanging will set the mood and give a definite beach vibe!
